JOAN M. EISENBERG, CMKBD, ASID, CFCS

Joan’s degree in Family and Consumer Sciences Education from the University of Maryland has been the backbone of her career.

After teaching Clothing Construction for several years and taking a break to have three children.  Joan has spent the past 36 years in the Kitchen and Bathroom Industry. After entering this new phase of her career, she has continued her education with industry and individual study. She took time, before it was fashionable, to educate herself, in what was then known as Barrier Free Design, now known as Universal Design. Designing kitchens for families that observe Kosher Dietary Laws have also become a specialty.  Joan earned the professional designation of Certified Kitchen Designer in 1982 and 1990 was among the first 20 people to become a Certified Bathroom Designer. In 2001 Joan was again among the first group nationally to receive the designation of Certified Master Kitchen and Bathroom Designer (CMKBD) by the National Kitchen & Bath Association.   Also, Joan is also Certified in Family and Consumer Sciences (CFCS).

Serving both her profession and her community has been high on Joan’s priority list.  She has served on both the local and national level of the National Kitchen & Bath Association and the Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. She is also a Professional member of the American Society of Interior Designers. On the community level, Joan has been active as a mentor with both the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the Arthritis Foundation.

Over the past 40+ years of her professional career, Joan has used her training to educate her clients to be savvy consumers and design professionals.  Her articles and projects are frequently published. Over the years Joan has designed showrooms and show houses and served as an impartial expert to the Maryland Home Improvement Commission.  She has also been an instructor on the National Kitchen & Bath Association teaching staff and has written courses for and taught at the college level.  A highlight of Joan’s career in the Kitchen and Bath Industry was being selected by Women’s Day Special Interest Publications to participate as the lead designer in their exhibit for the Design Idea Center at the National Kitchen & Bath Conference and Exhibits in New Orleans.

Joan lives in Baltimore with her husband of 47 years and enjoys spending time with her children and grandchildren.  Joan is about to launch to a new level in her career.  Concentrating on writing on a variety of topics, photography, online design consultations and an online shopping site focused on healthy living, and of course traveling.  Visit the newly updated sites.
